As the fastest growing media agency in Canada, we are looking for an exceptional Account Director who can help to drive Carat’s ambition to Redefine Media and the value it delivers to our clients’ businesses. We are looking for a candidate who functions best in an integrated team, and thrives in a high-touch, fast-paced, agile environment.  In this role you will work on Canada’s largest media account, giving you the rare opportunity to have a hand in shaping the future of automotive advertising in Canada.   


As the senior media planning person for both brand and retail media, you will lead the strategic direction, manage day-to-day operations, and be the primary client contact for all things media.   You will be an expert on the client’s business and a leader on a team that also includes Account Servicing, Creative and Production. 


The focus of this role will be on delivering best-in-class media planning product that demonstrates exceptional knowledge of luxury brands and the Canadian media environment – delivering digital leadership, with a passion for media-led innovation and consumer insight.  As a senior member of the team you must be proactive; constantly looking to identify business opportunities and solutions, foster results-oriented relationships, and be able to effectively communicate the agency’s vision.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Media Planning and Execution:

  • Accountable for best-in-class media planning and buying, including innovative thinking and flawless execution
  • Demonstrate a high degree of agility in a fast-paced environment
  • Lead the process of strategic media planning/execution and serve as a mentor for other team members
  • Demonstrate ability to utilize resources to help guide client’s marketing goals in their respective markets (syndicated, proprietary, analyst data)
  • Understand and adopt new techniques and technologies that are relevant for clients’ media strategies
  • Provide and discuss industry information on media, markets and related dynamics
  • Maintain relationships with media community; develop vendor relationships for exchange of ideas
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate the vision of the Dentsu Aegis Network
  • In combination with the Network’s trading team, provide oversight and stewardship of all media placements


Client & Internal Relationships:

  • Build and maintain trusting, collaborative relationships with clients at appropriate levels
  • Be seen by clients as an expert in media as well as in luxury and automotive businesses
  • Manage day-to-day expectations of clients and deliverables under extremely tight timelines
  • Accurately represent the client’s point of view when reviewing work, leverage this perspective when providing feedback to team and presenting to client
  • Capable of effectively managing up and down the reporting structure
  • Work collaboratively with other team members in a full-service environment
  • Mentor, motivate and develop direct reports


Strategic Thinking & Leadership:

  • Provide and/or guide strategic input for all plans internally and externally
  • Demonstrate problem solving and intervention when necessary
  • Understand and analyze the root causes of problems and develop ways to rectify
  • Guide and assist staff to arrive at potential solutions to problems/issues
  • Ensure key information is provided to team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.
  • Construct and deliver accurate, honest and timely performance management documents


Communication Skills:

  • Lead the development of client presentations that are clear, compelling and persuasive
  • Present with clarity, passion and enthusiasm
  • Adapt your communication style to individual audience’s concerns and perspectives
  • Move audiences to desired action through clear and persuasive delivery of information


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7 + years of media planning and buying experience, preferably in the luxury space 
  • Digital-first approach and experience
  • Experience in retail automotive preferred
  • Understanding of key research sources
  • Proven leadership ability – experience managing a team
  • Knowledge of current trends and innovations in media
  • Must be willing to travel
  • High-level proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
