The Story Lab is looking to hire a Content Sales and Acquision Director to join their team. This newly developed role is based out of the Toronto offices of the Story Lab, part of the Dentsu Aegis Network. The Director will be responsible for defining the company’s television and digital content sales strategy and leading all planning, pitching and execution of sales in this space. They will also be responsible for advising when TSL should invest and partner in new content opportunities in Canada and shall be responsible for the negotiation of commercial terms with rights owners for all properties.


  • Meet with broadcasters to pitch TSL properties and monetize the IP rights within Canada
  • Negotiate commercial terms of all content sales in Canada
  • Maintain excellent relationships with creators of premium content, with the objective of gaining oversight of their development slate to identify strategic opportunities for investment
  • Pitch to potential partners to represent their content / partner with them and negotiate competitive commercial terms
  • Create financial projections on format properties in co-operation with TSL executives and Amplifi Global’s finance team
  • Create TSL Canada business cases to be submitted to the Content Investment Committee in cooperation with TSL executives and Amplifi Global’s finance team when required
  • Role shall have oversight over the flow of content in to, and out of TSL Canada in order to advise on rights exploitation and monetization opportunities
  • Remain up to date with content trends through access to market research and trade publications
  • Attend key markets and events in Canada and internationally when required with a view to developing and maintaining relationships
  • Help to maintain excellent relationships across commission editors and programme buyers at broadcasters and production companies within Canada

  • Provide strategic sales guidance to TSL Global on potential opportunities and acquired rights

Key Skills

  • Extensive experience in negotiating the sale of IP rights
  • Experience in providing financial forecasts for content sales using Microsoft Excel. A working knowledge of TV content sales prices is necessary.
  • Extensive experience in dealing with production companies, IP creators and content distributors
  • Experience in financial projection analysis
  • High level of competence using: Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Apple
  • Competence using cloud based storage solutions (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft Sharepoint)
  • Fluent in English (French is an asset)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Confidence in meeting people and presenting to high level executives


  • 7+ year experience in a selling formats and/or finished programmes, with extensive experience selling to the Canadian market
  • Extensive contacts within the Canadian television production and distribution sector
  • High level of business acumen
  • Commercial and creative knowledge and a passion and knowlege of TV/film production
  • Knowledge of advertising and marketing considered advantageous
